FC Edmonton News Release

FC Edmonton (1-2-0) collected their fifth point of the North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season against San Antonio Scorpions (1-1-1), July 15, earning a 2-2 draw, at Toyota Field to remain atop the Fall Season league table.

The Scorpions received scoring from Omar Cummings and second-half substitute Cesar Elizondo, while a resilient Eddies squad received goals from Michael Nonni and Cristian Raudales.

Raudales came close to opening scoring in the match on six minutes, after teammate Johann Smith worked the ball into the box from the left wing. Smith received an opportunity of his own moments later, cutting in from the left side and a firing a shot that would go high.

The Scorpions would take the lead on 17 minutes, when Billy Forbes laid the ball off to league-leading scorer Cummings, who struck the ball into the box and past Eddies goalkeeper Matt VanOekel.

The Eddies tied the match just under 20 minutes later, when Smith's cross was met by a smooth right-footed flick from Nonni, who notched his first goal of the season to send his side into the break in a 1-1 draw.

VanOekel's impressive first half included saves on a pair of close range shots. His strong form continued in the second, where the Eddies 'keeper was forced to make a sharp save on a Cummings header to preserve the tie.

Despite VanOekel's play, the Scorpions would regain the lead on 57 minutes when Forbes made a dangerous run into the box and found Elizondo, who tapped the ball into the open net.

The Eddies refused to concede the match, tying it again on 71 minutes after Raudales controlled a pass from Nonni and fired a rocket of a shot towards the far-post to make it 2-2.

Raudales came close to his second of the match when he received a pass at the top of the box and fired a hard shot on target, but Scorpion 'keeper Daryl Sattler did well to get a hand on the ball as both sides would play to a 2-2 draw.

"I am very pleased with some of the football we played tonight," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller said. "We have a group of young lads who have shown that they can play football at this level and I am so proud of them."

FC Edmonton heads to Al Lang Stadium, Saturday, July 18 to face Tampa Bay Rowdies. Kick off is set for 5:30 p.m. MT. For more information, please visit www.fcedmonton.com.
