Lewington Getting Ready for September

Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
ARLINGTON, Va. - At Washington Capitals development camp this week, Tyler Lewington is preparing for his professional debut in 2015-16.
But the defenseman is doing it as an observer at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
Lewington, 20, recovering from shoulder surgery, isn't participating in on-ice workouts.
"I saw the surgeon the other day just to kind of get a time frame of where I'm at and when I can start getting into shooting the puck and contact and stuff like that," Lewington said. "Just trying to do what I can do to get ready for [training] camp in September."
The 6-1, 197-pounder, who produced 9-36-45 in 69 games for Medicine Hat (WHL) in 2014-15, suffered labrum damage in his right shoulder during the regular season that was aggravated in a playoff series against the Calgary Hitmen, coached by former Hershey Bears head coach Mark French.
"It hurt on my shoulder and then I just kind of played through it for a bit," Lewington said. "I hurt it again in playoffs and it just was something they decided needed to get worked on. Surgery was what they decided would be the best."
The injury prevented Lewington, a 2013 seventh-round draft pick (204th overall), from joining the Bears at the end of 2014-15.
"It definitely would have been nice to go to Hershey," Lewington said, "kind of get a feel for it and see what the organization is all about there, meet some of the guys and the coaches and see how they run things."
Right-shot Lewington is ticketed to play for Hershey in 2015-16 amid a youthful blue line infusion also expected to include fellow rookies Madison Bowey and Christian Djoos.
The hope is that Lewington will be fully cleared to participate in rookie camp in September and play in a rookie tournament scheduled for Estero, Fla.
"That's is the plan," Lewington said. "I definitely think I'll be ready to go for that. My progress has been going good so far. As of now, I'm definitely thinking that I'm going to be ready, for sure, by then."
