Florence RedWolves News Release

LEXINGTON, S.C.- As the inclement weather held off just long enough, the (19-18, 4-6 second half) Florence RedWolves were able to trudge into Lexington County Baseball Stadium and pop the (18-17, 3-4 second half) Blowfish, 11-2 Tuesday night.

Offense was the name of the game for the RedWolves; as they battered the Blowfish for 11 runs off 12 hits, picking up their third win in a row. In the last three games, Florence has scored an incredible 31 runs off of 36 hits.

Ben Holland accounted for more than half of the runs produced by the Red and Black Tuesday night, going 3-for-6, 2 RBI HR, 2 RBI double, and 2 RBI single. In total 6 RBI's and 2 runs scored, a triple shy of the cycle, howling the RedWolves over the Blowfish.

Lexington County started the scoring for both teams in the bottom of the second inning, with a leadoff homerun from JD Crowe.

Florence then responded with two in the top of the third. Ray Lanners led the inning off by singling into centerfield, and then reached second as Kolin McMillen grounded to short, but the ball was thrown away by the third baseman, allotting both runners safe on the play. After two quick fly outs, Kyle Prats stood at the plate. Prats struck out and the inning should have ended there, but the ball got away from JD Crowe and everyone was safe on the play. With bases loaded and two outs, Ben Holland stepped to the plate and railed a single into left field, scoring both Lanners and McMillen on the play to take the 2-1 lead going into the fourth.

Florence scratched one across in the 4th, led off by Andrew Castillo being struck by a pitch. Chaz Pal sacrificed himself, moving Castillo to second. Ray Lanners was able to reach on an error by the second baseman, as the ball trickled right underneath his glove into right, sending Castillo home, 3-1.

The fifth inning was very "Ben"-ificial for the RedWolves. Prats reached base again with a single into right field followed by an absolute monster shot of a homerun from Ben Holland (3rd HR on the year) to put Florence up 5-1. Nick Nunziato was then walked, following a strikeout; Pal shot a single into right, putting the runners on the corners for Lanners. He stroked one to the deep left center gap off the wall, for a two run double giving the RedWolves a 7-1 lead.

That drew the pitching change from the Blowfish, as Cannan Cropper's night was done after giving up seven runs (5 E) on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts in four and a third innings pitched. Tyler Kimbrell worked the next inning and two- thirds, giving up a run on two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lexington County got just one run back. Florence went to the bullpen for Brandon Cook, who came in for James Walsh. Walsh worked four innings of five hit baseball, giving up just one run, three walks, and three strikeouts.

Cook came in for the next three innings and only surrendered a run on three hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

In the seventh, Brandon White came on for the Blowfish, giving up three runs off of two hits in the inning. McMillen led off, reaching on a dropped third strike. Rollins grounded out into a 5-4 fielder's choice nabbing McMillen at second. After an Adams strikeout, Prats was walked and both runners then advanced into scoring postion after a wild pitch. That lead to yet another run producing opportunity for Ben Holland, who zinged a 2 RBI double into the right center gap making it 10-2 in favor of Florence. Nunziato followed by again being hit by a pitch and Castillo roped a single into center scoring Holland, 11-2.

Walsh went on to pick up his second win of the season (2-0) as Daniel Barfield worked the last two innings giving up just one hit and two strikeouts. The sort of odd stat for the RedWolves Tuesday, is that all of their pitchers that toed the rubber are all listed as starting pitchers, though it was Cook's second relief appearance on the season, Barfield's first.

The RedWolves now on a three game winning streak improve to (20-18, 5-6 second half) on the season, and look to continue the upward trend, Wednesday night, as they play host to the Fayetteville SwampDogs.
