Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Alexander Simon had two hits and drove in three runs, two on a first-inning double as Kannapolis opened a three-game series with an 8-2 win over the BlueClaws on Tuesday night.
The BlueClaws, who had won seven of their last ten games, fell behind in the first inning and trailed the rest of the way in the first game of their seven game trip. Lakewood falls to 10-9/43-44 and lost on what was a chance to get back over .500 on the season for the first time since June 16th.
Kannapolis improves to 10-9/45-43 with the win and they have won eight of their last 11 games. Eddy Alvarez, Simon, Michael Suiter, and Ethan Gross all had two hits for the Intimidators.
Kannapolis scored three times in the first inning off Tyler Viza, taking the lead, a lead they would not give up, on a two-run Alexander Simon double and adding another on a Michael Suiter RBI single. Viza took the loss and fell to 4-5.
Kannapolis extended their lead in the fourth on a Michael Danner groundout scoring Suiter, who doubled, and in the fifth on a Simon RBI double. Viza came out after the fifth, allowing five runs on eight hits. The Intimidators added two runs off Scott Harris in the sixth inning on an RBI triple by Danner and an RBI single by Ethan Gross.
Lakewood led 1-0 after a half-inning on a first-inning RBI single by Kyle Martin and got their other run on a second inning solo HR by Jiandido Tromp, his second of the season.
Yelmison Peralta gave up two runs over six innings and improved to 3-7 on the year.
The series in Kannapolis continues on Wednesday. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (4-5) starts for Lakewood against RHP Thad Lowry (9-4).
