LHP Matt Gage Named SAL Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets single A affiliate of the 2014 World Champion San Francisco Giants are proud to announce that starting pitcher Matt Gage has won the South Atlantic League's pitcher of the week award. This week's award ranges from the dates of July 6th through July 12th.

During the week of July 6th through July 12th, Matt Gage started in one game against the Rome Braves on July 10th. In his fifteenth start of the season the Giants 2014 10th round draft pick pitched seven scoreless innings allowing only three hits, one walk, and struck out nine. Even though the GreenJackets went on to win game in an easy fashion with a score of eight to zero. Matt Gage worked five inning of his seven innings with only a one run lead. He kept the Braves' batters in check before the GreenJackets offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to open up the game.

Throughout the season, Matt Gage has held the number one starting spot in the rotation. Overall the big lefty contains a four and four record on fifteen starts. He has pitched a total of seventy-seven and one third innings and has an ERA just over four at 4.07. With seventy-one strikeouts on the season Gage finds himself only seven strikeouts behind the league lead, which is held by his teammate Sam Coonrod at seventy-eight.

Matt Gage's next scheduled start will be on the road in Hickory, North Carolina on Friday, July 17th when the GreenJackets take on the Crawdads at L.P. Fans Stadium.
