Bees' Rally Falls Short in 3-2 Loss

(Davenport-IA)- Quad Cities starter, Justin Farrell held the Burlington Bees (41-46) hitless for seven innings as the Bees lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits (56-30), 3-2 on Sunday night at Modern Woodman Park.

Bobby Boyd started the bottom of the first inning with a line drive single to left and then advanced to third base on an error on Keynan Middleton on a failed pick off attempt. Jamie Ritchie put the River Bandits on top, 1-0 thanks to a ground out, scoring Boyd. Sean McMullen doubled the River Bandits' lead in the bottom of the second inning, crushing his fifth home run of the season, upping the lead to 2-0.

Ryan Bottger opened the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk and came around to score on a Kristian Trompiz double, off the wall in left center, upping the River Bandits' lead to 3-0.

Quad Cities' starter, Justin Farrell entered the eighth inning with a no hitter, just allowing four base runners. Wade Wass worked a lead off walk and moved to third baseball in a Natanael Delgado double, the Bees' first hit of the game. Steven Mateo put the Bees on the board with a single to left and Michael Hermosillo pulled the Bees to within a run with a sacrifice fly to left, making the score 3-2. The Bees loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, but River Bandits' closer, Angel Heredia (4) retired the next five hitters in a row, earning the save.

Justin Farrell (2-2) earned the win while Bees' starter, Keynan Middleton (4-6) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the River Bandits finish the series Monday night at 7:00. Justin Anderson makes the start for the Bees against David Paulino for Quad Cities.
