Glens Falls and Victor Split Doubleheader

Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Glens Falls Dragons (17-16) and Victor RailRiders (16-15) split a doubleheader at East Field Sunday in PGCBL action. The Dragons took game one 3-0. The RailRiders bounced back in a huge way to win the nightcap 15-1.

In game one, Glens Falls started the scoring early as they took advantage of a pair of Victor fielding errors. Ryan Hooper (UC-Davis) and Jake Vieth (Tacoma CC) reached because of fielding miscues by the RailRiders. Brennan Price (Felician) then delivered an RBI single to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Glens Falls increased their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Hooper was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing Oscar Rodriguez (St. Thomas) home.

Glens Falls gave themselves a little breathing room in the bottom of the fifth. Vieth led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a Victor throwing error, and came around to score on an RBI single by Rodriguez to make it 3-0.

Meanwhile, Glens Falls starting pitcher Tyler Ehlers (Colorado Mesa) was hurling a gem. Ehlers went the distance in this seven inning game, giving up just two hits, while striking out five and walking two to earn the shutout victory.

Victor pitcher Peter Lannoo (Cornell) also went the distance and pitched well despite taking the loss. Lannoo scattered six hits, giving while giving up three runs, two of which were earned. He struck out four, while walking just one.

Rodriguez finished 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Dragons. Hooper and Price also picked up RBIs.

Mark Cardinalli (UC-Davis) and Brock Daniels (St. Ambrose) had the two hits for the RailRiders.

In game two, Victor was looking to avoid the sweep and hit the scoreboard quickly against Glens Falls starter Matt Stojkov (Northwood). Dale Wickham (Cornell) singled and Matt Fallon (Black Hawk) drew a walk. Mark Cardinalli (UC-Davis) then singled to drive in Wickham. The RailRiders added an RBI single from Nolan Shultz (U. of Rochester), and Stojkov walked in a run to make it 3-0 after a half inning.

Victor didn't slow down in the second. Cardinalli struck again with an RBI double, and Evan Fernandez (Jacksonville) drove in a run and came around to score on a wild pitch to make it 6-0. Reliever Drue Brooks (Felician) came in to replace Stojkov and promptly walked in a pair of runs to give the RailRiders the eight run lead before he was able to work the Dragons out of the inning.

Victor added a single run in the third and three more in the fourth as Fallon knocked in two more runs and Chris Lehane (Jacksonville) added an RBI to make it 12-0.

Glens Falls spoiled the shutout bid of Victor starter Austin Wilson (LSU-Alexandria) in the fourth as they got back to back doubles from Jake Vieth (Tacoma CC) and Oscar Rodriguez (St. Thomas) to make it 12-1.

The RailRiders added three more runs in the seventh to provide the final margin of victory.

Wickham was 3 for 5 with a double for the RailRiders, while Cardinalli was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Schultz was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, while Fallon also drove in a run a pair of runs for Victor. Evan Fernandez (Jacksonville) had a pair of safeties as well.

Wilson got the win on the mound, going five innings while yielding seven hits. He struck out four while walking just one.

Dylan Robinson (UMASS) had a pair of hits for Glens Falls.

The Dragons are back in action at East Field Sunday afternoon against the Amsterdam Mohawks. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
