Worcester Bravehearts News Release

PITTSFIELD - The Worcester Bravehearts got just about all they could handle from the Pittsfield Suns on Friday night, July 10 at Wacconah Park in Pittsfield but managed to squeak out a 5-4 win to end their three-game road stand on a high note.

With the game tied 3-3 in the 8th inning, Worcester third baseman Mike Coggeshall (Assumption / Shrewsbury) scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice from catcher David Noworyta (Hawaii / Hainesport, New Jersey). The Bravehearts scored a crucial insurance run in the 9th with an RBI single from right fielder Willie Allen (Lewis and Clark State / Boston) to score center fielder Ian Strom (UMass Lowell / Hopedale)

Despite being outhit 10-6 by the Suns, Coggeshall and Strom both lead their team's offense. Coggeshall went 1-2 with a 2-RBI double in the fifth inning to go with two walks and one run scored, and Strom went 3-4 and scored three of Worcester's five runs. Strom raised his average to .405 in the nine games he's played since returning to the squad.

Worcester closer Adam De La Cruz (Cochise / Bronx, New York) picked up a four-out save but gave up a solo home run to Casey McCone (Bridgeport / Milford, Connecticut) to cut the lead to one run. The Suns loaded the bases with two outs, but De La Cruz was able to bear down and strike out Matt Morales (Stetson University / Wellington, Florida) to end the game.

The Bravehearts bullpen came up clutch, as Luke Brennan (Franklin Pierce / Worcester). Clayton Dostal (Galveston / Richmond, Texas) and De La Cruz combined for 10 strikeouts in four innings while allowing just one run. Dostal got the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings with no hits and four strikeouts.

Pittsfield reliever Connor Johnson (Maine / Taunton) took the loss, as he was charged with the go-ahead run in the 8th inning.

The Worcester Bravehearts return home to host the Seacoast Mavericks at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night, July 11 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Tickets for all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
