D-Braves Walk off with Game Winning Home Run

DANVILLE, VA- The D-Braves walked off on a solo blast by left fielder Leudys Baez to give the Braves a 7-6 win. Danville had 11 total team hits as they extend their winning streak to three games.

Danville started off hot scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early 4-2 lead after Bluefield scored two in the top of the first. Center fielder Ray Didder singled to lead off the bottom of the first and was later driven in on a single to right field by Braves second baseman Luke Dykstra. Braves designated hitter Carlos Castro then extended his now nine game hitting streak with a single to left field. Right fielder Jose Morel then was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second for short stop Kurt Hoekstra. Hoekstra would ground into a fielder's choice, which scored Castro to tie the game up at 2-2. Catcher Alejandro Flores then walked to again give the Braves runners on first and second with third baseman Jacob Lanning coming to the plate. Lanning sent a two RBI single to right field and the Braves quickly doubled up the Blue Jays 4-2.

The D-Braves would add a run in the bottom of the second to increase their lead to 5-2. Castro would double home Leudys Baez to put the Braves up 5-2. Bluefield would then add a four spot of their own to the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when three straight batters reached without recording a hit. 'Jays center fielder Rodrigo Orozco would reach on a Kurt Hoekstra fielding error, followed by back-to-back walk to Yeltsin Gudino and Deiferson Barreto. Blue Jays designated hitter Gabe Clark getting his first start with the Blue Jays got his first professional hit and first professional home run all with one swing of the bat. Clark's three run home run would give the Blue Jays the lead 6-5, as the score remained until the Braves plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.

Jaccob Lanning would get things started in the bottom of the sixth inning with a one out double to right-center field. Braves first baseman Ian Hagenmiller then singled to left field and advanced to second base on the throw by the left fielder, and Lanning advanced to third. Ray Didder then grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Lanning to tie the game at 6-6.

The score remained dead locked at 6-6 until the bottom of the ninth inning. After Braves center fielder Ray Didder grounded out to the short stop Yeltsin Grudino, the stage was set for left fielder Leudys Baez. With a 1-1 count Baez got the pitch he wanted and deposited it just over the right field wall for a walk off home run as the Braves win 7-6.

The D-Braves will go for their first series sweep tomorrow night at 7:00 P.M. in the series finale against Bluefield. Right hander Josh Graham will get the start for Danville, and the Blue Jays will counter with a right hander of their own in Dalton Rodriguez. Tomorrow night is also t-shirt night at the ballpark, the first 500 fans will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Piney Forest Health & Rehab. Also, Planet Fitness members will receive a dollar off of general admissions tickets for tomorrow night's game.
