On Saturday night, the Colorado Rapids will have a special pregame ceremony to honor retired midfielder and current Assistant Coach and Community Ambassador Brian Mullan.

Mullan's professional soccer career will be celebrated prior to the second Rocky Mountain Cup match of the season against Real Salt Lake at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff to the match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MT on Altitude (TICKETS).

"We are delighted to have Brian represent the Colorado Rapids organization as our Community Ambassador," added Rapids President, Tim Hinchey. "On behalf of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment and the Colorado Rapids, we want to thank Brian for his efforts on and off the field and we look forward to honoring him on Saturday night."

The match will include a pregame ceremony to honor former Rapids player and five time MLS Cup champion Brian Mullan who currently serves as one of Pablo Mastroeni's Assistant Coach as well as Community Ambassador for the club's organization. Outside of coaching, Mullan participates in public speaking, supports numerous philanthropic organizations and causes, and serves in the area of community outreach.

Mullan played 14 years in Major League Soccer and during that time was a part of five MLS Cup-winning teams. He is one of only two players in the history of the league to be a member of five championship teams.

He was drafted ninth overall by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft and made his MLS debut against Colorado on April 21, 2001. In his first professional season, Mullan helped the Galaxy win the 2001 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. His second year in Los Angeles was highlighted by the Galaxy winning both the MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield.

In 2003, he was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes and picked up right where he left off in Los Angeles, with another MLS Cup title. He scored six goals, contributed six assists and started every game for the Earthquakes. He spent two more years at San Jose, helping the 'Quakes win the 2005 Supporters' Shield.

He spent much of the next five years in Houston where he helped the Dynamo win two consecutive MLS Cups, giving him four MLS Cup titles in seven years as a professional. He ranks second all-time for the Dynamo in assists with 26.

After the first 22 games of the 2010 season in Houston, Mullan was traded to the Colorado Rapids on September 15, 2010, which marked his return to his home state. Two months later, Mullan played a vital role in helping the Rapids win their first ever MLS Cup championship and Mullan's fifth.

In 2012, he became the 15th field player in MLS history to reach 300 career regular season games. His 14-year MLS totals include 359 appearances, 320 starts, 31 goals and 65 assists.

"It is astonishing what Brian was able to accomplish during his time in Major League Soccer," said Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director. "He has been able to bring his experience and positive attitude to our locker room as a player and now as a coach. We are extremely fortunate to have Brian as part of our technical staff."

Mullan had four appearances with the U.S. National Team, making his national team debut July 11, 2004 against Poland. His last full national team appearance was on March 25, 2007 against Ecuador.

On April 4, 2008, Mullan was honored with induction into the Creighton University Athletics Hall of Fame. In his four years playing for the Blue Jays, his career totals are 88 appearances, 36 goals and 32 assists. He attended Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., where he was the 1996-97 Colorado High School Player of the Year, leading Regis to the state 5A title as a senior and the 4A title as a junior.
