Bloomington, IL - The National Hockey League's Central Scouting Service has released their initial 2015-16 Futures List and a Bloomington Thunder forward, along with 17 other United States Hockey League players made the cut. Mitchell Mattson (University of North Dakota) who finished the season with the Thunder, joins some of the top prospects in the world as players to watch this upcoming season.

Mattson, 17, earns his first listing on the Central Scouting Service and is eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo, NY on Friday June 24 and 25.

After completing the 2014-15 season with the Grand Rapids High School Thunderhawks, Mattson turned on a top caliber performance in Bloomington's final 13 games of the season. The 6-foot-3 forward grabbed two goals and five assists as the Thunder pushed toward the postseason, including an assist during the opening 6 minutes of his USHL debut on Mar. 1 versus Chicago.

In Bloomington's first USHL draft, the Grand Rapids, MN native was the first ever selection by the expansion organization. After being selected in Phase I with the eighth overall pick by Bloomington, Mattson returned to Grand Rapids and led the Thunderhawks in points with 51 (23g, 28a) over just 27 games with his hometown team.

During his time at Grand Rapids, Mattson earned a commitment to the University of North Dakota to play NCAA hockey. North Dakota spent time this past season as the top ranked team in college hockey and earned an appearance in the Frozen Four. The historic hockey school is tied for second most all-time in national championships with 7.

Mattson will join Bloomington for training camp prior to the 2015-16 season in anticipation of his first full USHL campaign.

Record NHL Draft: A record 37 USHL players were selected in the 2015 NHL draft. 29 of those selected played against Bloomington at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in 2014-15 over 25 of the Thunder's 30 games at home. Ten others drafted were USHL alumni. Of the 32 first-round picks, the USHL saw four selected in the top ten and eight overall.
