Bravehearts drop home contest to Blues

Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER - The Worcester Bravehearts went through highs in lows against the Bristol Blues but ultimately lost an 8-2 matchup Tuesday night, July 7 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

The Bravehearts and Blues battled for five scoreless innings, but before Bristol broke through for two runs in the sixth, Worcester center fielder Ian Strom (UMass Lowell / Hopedale) made an incredible diving catch to his left to keep the game scoreless. Strom's catch was No. 2 on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays for July 7, and it was the second time as a Braveheart he made the Top 10.

Blues center fielder Davis Strong (St. Mary's / Walnut Creek, California) broke the deadlock with an RBI single, and first baseman Gerrad Rohan (Akron / North Lima, Ohio) followed up with an RBI double to score Strong.

Both of those runs came off Bravehearts starter Bobby Maxwell (LIU Brooklyn / Otisville, New York) who took the loss after going 5.2 innings with one walk, one strikeout and two runs (one earned) on six hits.

After breaking the tie, Bristol's offense exploded for six runs though four of them were unearned. Worcester committed two errors in the inning, as Strong and Rohan broke the game open by giving their team an 8-0 lead. Strong hit a 2-RBI double, and Rohan hit a 2-RBI single.

The Bravehearts didn't have much of an answer to Blues starter George Lund (Roger Williams / West Hartford, Connecticut), as the righty got his first win of the season by striking out six and surrendering only two hits in five scoreless innings of work.

In just his tenth game of the season, Worcester catcher David Noworyta (Hawaii / Hainesport, New Jersey) was one of the few bright spots for his team's offense, as he went 3-4 with three singles and an RBI. The Blues collected 14 hits in the winning effort.

The 9-18 Bravehearts hit the road to face the Seacoast Mavericks at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 8 on Leary Field in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Tickets for all future Bravehearts games are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
