Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, CA - Rancho Cucamonga snapped a three-game losing streak and a five-game skid in San Bernardino, topping Inland Empire 8-3 at San Manuel Stadium on Monday night.

The Quakes (6-5, 47-34) drew first blood against 66ers' starter Ryan Etsell (4-3) in the third inning. Travis Witherspoon cracked a solo homer to left field for his first in a Quakes' uniform. Johan Mieses continued the rally with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Tyler Ogle chased Mieses home with a base-hit to right field, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Rancho Cucamonga would display some more power against Etsell in the fourth. Paul Hoenecke blasted a solo homer to right field, clearing the 20-foot fence for his seventh of the year, giving the Quakes a 3-0 cushion.

Inland Empire (5-6, 39-41) got on the board against Quakes' starter Zach Lee (1-0) in the bottom of the fourth. Eric Aguilera led off the frame with a double down the right field line. Andrew Daniel followed with a single, placing runners at the corners. Kody Eaves' RBI groundout plated Aguilera and pushed Daniel to second. Roberto Baldoquin reached on a fielder's choice and scored on Angel Rosa's single to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Lee, rated by Baseball America as the 13th-best prospect in the Dodgers' system, pitched well in his first start for Rancho Cucamonga since 2012. The right-hander tossed five innings, allowing two runs, four hits and a walk while striking out two. Lee, who started the year with Triple-A Oklahoma City, is recovering from an undisclosed injury.

The Quakes restored their three-run lead in the top of the sixth against 66ers' reliever Trevor Foss. Erisbel Arruebarrena led off the inning with a single. Paul Hoenecke singled up the middle, setting up runners at first and third. Josmar Cordero reached on a fielder's choice groundout that scored Arruebarrena and advanced to second on an error by Daniel, the second baseman. After moving to third on a wild pitch. Cordero hustled home on Witherspoon's infield single, extending the margin to 5-2.

The 66ers responded in the bottom of the sixth against reliever Rob Rogers. Aguilera doubled to right-center field and scored on Daniel's two-bagger down the left field line, making it 5-3.

Rancho Cucamonga put the game out of reach in the top of the seventh against Foss. Mieses reached on an error by shortstop Roberto Baldoquin, Inland Empire's third defensive miscue of the contest. Tim Locastro reached on an infield single. Cody Bellinger launched a three-run homer to right-center field for his team-leading 16th of the season, giving the Quakes an 8-3 edge.

Rogers struck out six batters over three relief innings and A.J. Vanegas pitched a perfect ninth to give the Quakes the win.

Tonight marks Rancho Cucamonga's first victory at San Manuel Stadium since April 15th, a 6-0 shutout of Inland Empire.

The Quakes return home to begin a four-game series against Lancaster on Tuesday night. Rancho Cucamonga will send right-hander Zack Bird (4-4, 4.46 ERA) to the mound, while the JetHawks counter with righty Austin Chrismon (2-1, 5.82 ERA).
