Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - After losing two leads, the JetHawks rallied late and claimed a series victory with a 7-3 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Monday night at The Diamond.
Providing three innings of scoreless relief, Aaron Greenwood (1-0) received his first win for the JetHawks (44-37) retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced, including the last nine in a row.
A.J. Reed went 3-for-3 with a home run, driving in three runs and scoring two. Marc Wik and Ronnie Mitchell both hit triples, the latter going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
With the score tied at 3-3, Derek Fisher led off the top of the eighth inning by reaching base on a throwing error by Storm (34-47) second baseman Ricardo Valenzuela, and then stole second base. After a J.D. Davis walk, Reed plated Fisher with a go-ahead RBI-single off reliever Bryan Verbitsky (0-1), moving Davis to third. Mitchell tripled to left field, extending Lancaster's lead to three runs. Jose Fernandez immediately followed with a RBI-single against new pitcher Eric Yardley.
The JetHawks scored first in the game on Reed's two-run homer in the first inning off starting pitcher Ronald Herrera. But Lake Elsinore tied the game against tandem starter Kevin Comer in the fourth, as Auston Bousfield walked, moved to second on a Marcus Davis single and scored on the same play as Fisher misplayed the ball in center field. Davis later came around to score the tying run on two wild pitches by Comer.
Wik put Lancaster back in the lead, 3-2, with a RBI-triple in the top of the seventh, but the Storm again tied the score in the bottom half on a Gabriel Quintana RBI-single off Comer.
Comer pitched three innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out just one. He had taken over to begin the fourth after an early exit for JetHawks starter Edison Frias, who struck out two and allowed just one hit, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced through three innings.
The JetHawks' road trip continues Tuesday as the club opens a four-game series against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Austin Chrismon (2-1, 5.82) will start on the mound for the JetHawks opposite the Quakes' Brock Stewart (2-1, 5.29). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
