SeaWolves Bless the Rains in Bowie, Take Series

The SeaWolves battled a 2:11 rain delay on Monday night at Prince George's Stadium and used a big ninth inning to win their second straight game, 5-1, over the Bowie Baysox.

Erie jumped ahead in the top of the second against Bowie starter Parker Bridwell. James Robbins led off with a double and scored on a Connor Harrell double for a 1-0 lead.

The Baysox tied the game in the last of the second against Erie starter Tommy Collier when David Freitas led off and belted a solo home run to left, making it a 1-1 game.

The rains came in the bottom of the sixth inning and a 2:11 rain delay ensued.

The game remained tied until the top of the ninth inning as the 'Wolves stepped in against reliever Mychel Givens. Harrell led off and reached on an error. Tony Thomas followed with a double putting runners on second and third. With one out, a Givens wild pitch scored Harrell giving Erie a 2-1 lead. Harold Castro followed a laced an RBI single up the middle for a 3-1 advantage. Wynton Bernard was then hit by a pitch putting two on for Alberto Gonzalez. With Gonzalez hitting, Castro and Bernard executed a double steal, putting two in scoring position. Gonzalez grounded to short and an a Garabez Rosa throwing error, two runs scored to make it 5-1 Erie.

Reliever Warwick Saupold (3-6) earned the win tossing two scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, preserving the Erie win.

Collier took a no-decision allowing a run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in five innings.
