Raptors Take Series Wtih Walk-Off Win

July 7, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Matt Jones singled home Willie Calhoun in the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Ogden Raptors an 8-7 win over the Grand Junction Rockies Monday night at Lindquist Field.

All three Raptors that faced Daniel Koger in the tenth singled, with Willie Calhoun scoring the winning run, giving the Raptors a series win, dropping the Rockies to 2-5 on their 7-game trip to Utah.

Grand Junction led the game 7-2 with nobody on and two out in the seventh inning, but Ryan Scott singled off Gavin Glanz to keep the inning alive. They loaded the bases against him when Deivy Castillo was hit by a pitch and Deion Ulmer walked, ending Glanz's night.

Alec Crawford replaced him and walked Chris Godinez to pull Ogden within four, then Calhoun reached on an error by Rockies first baseman Collin Ferguson, making it 7-5 and putting the tying run on base. That run scored when Michael Medina doubled off the centerfield wall.

The loss drops the Rockies to 10-9 at the halfway point of the first half, three games back of Orem for first place in the South Division.

Raptors starter Tommy Bergjans retired the first seven Rockies that he faced, striking out five, but then the Rockies got to him. Jensen Park singled and stole second. He scored when Daniel Suero singled. After Brendan Rodgers walked, Sam Hilliard doubled home Suero. Then, the next batter, Collin Ferguson singled home a pair to cap the inning.

Anthony Brito singled home Elvin Paulino in the fourth to increase the lead to five, but Ogden scored two unearned runs in the fifth to get on the board. Before the Raptors started their comeback bid, Ferguson hit a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh.

He finished the night 2-for-4 with 4 RBI. Hilliard had two hits and two stolen bases.

Glanz didn't factor in the decision, but he allowed 5 runs, only 1 earned, over 6.2 innings. It matches the longest start by a Rockies pitcher this season.

Hunter Brothers retired all six men that he faced in the eighth and ninth innings.
