El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

The El Paso Chihuahuas were down to their final two outs Monday when they rallied for three ninth-inning runs in a 5-3 comeback win over the Salt Lake Bees. The Chihuahuas have won all three games of the series in Salt Lake.

The Bees took their first lead of the series in the second inning when Kaleb Cowart hit an RBI single. Salt Lake went ahead 2-0 when Roger Kieschnick's home run cleared the right-center field wall.

Salt Lake starter Nick Tropeano came off the disabled list Monday and held the Chihuahuas without a hit until two outs in the fifth, when Benji Gonzalez hit an RBI double to make the score 2-1. El Paso tied the game on a Bees wild pitch in the top of the sixth.

Down 3-2 in the ninth, Jake Goebbert's single and Jason Hagerty's double put runners at second and third for Tommy Medica, whose RBI single to left field tied the game. The next batter, Gonzalez, hit a two-run triple over the center fielder's head. Gonzalez was sent home for an attempted inside-the-park home run but was thrown out at the plate.

Chihuahuas' starter Chris Smith allowed two runs in a six-inning no decision. It was Smith's fifth consecutive start lasting six innings or more. Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with two extra base hits and three RBIs in the win.
