Beckwith, Mallards Look to Even Score with Anchors
July 6, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - After weathering their first loss of the second half Sunday evening in Alexandria, Minn., field manager Donnie Scott and the Madison Mallards (3-1, 23-16) will chase a rebound victory in the finale of their two-game road set with the Blue Anchors on Monday at 7:05 p.m. CT. Comprehensive play-by-play coverage of tonight's contest - Madison's third road tilt in a span of five consecutive days - will be provided by 100.5 FM ESPN Madison.
Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) will receive his fourth start of the season on Monday at Knute Nelson Stadium. The 6-foot-2 right-hander Blythewood, S.C., carries a scoreless innings streak of 12 into tonight's series finale, a span of time in which he has allowed eight hits, one walk and has fanned five hitters over his last two starts. The sterling effort has run his record to 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 12:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio across six game (22.2 IP) this summer.
To counter, the Blue Anchors will assign right-handed pitcher Graylon Brown (Angelo State) to his third starting appearance of the 2015 season. Despite an 0-2 record, the 5-foot-10 right-hander from Brownwood, Tex., has performed admirably on the mound, logging a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 25:2 (27 IP) on his way to a 3.66 ERA. Brown's June 29 outing against Willmar saw him cede just one run with eight strikeouts across nine complete innings.
Theroux's Sweltering Swing - After going yard twice in Madison's Saturday victory in Wausau, Collin Theroux (San Joaquin Delta CC) collected his fifth home run of the season Sunday in Alexandria to complete a 3-for-5 night at the plate. No player in the Northwoods League with at least 35 at-bats this summer has posted a higher isolated slugging percentage than Theroux's .432. On average, he has homered once per every 7.4 at-bats.
The Beat Goes on for Butler - Mallards shortstop Tony Butler (Madison College) clubbed his first home run of the season on Sunday to extend his hit streak to a season-high 10 games. During that stretch, the Sun Prairie, Wis., native has gone 13-for-36 (.361) eight runs batted in and a pair of stolen bases. Only Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) and Theroux have contributed with as many RBI (6) as Butler in the second half of the season.
The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond on Thursday, July 9 at 7:05 p.m. against the Kenosha Kingfish. Thursday's game will feature a Motorcycle Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway presented by WKOW-TV at the front gates of the stadium while supplies last and a pre-game skydiving and tandem skydive giveaway presented by Great Lakes Skydiving.
