Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Green Bay Bullfrogs will play the finale of a two-game series tonight against the Kalamazoo Growlers after last night's late comeback came up short.
The Bullfrogs scored three in the eighth and a run in the ninth before Mikey Duarte was thrown out at home trying to score the tying run.
Kalamazoo opened the game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Nick Yarnall walked to score a run, Alex Gosser hit a two-RBI double, and Corey Dempster added a sacrifice fly to left to give the Growlers a 4-0 lead.
Green Bay answered with a run in the second with a RBI groundout for Duarte, followed by another run-scoring groundball for Ty Blankmeyer to cut the lead to 4-2.
The Growlers came right back with a two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to open up a 7-2 advantage. Yarnall had a RBI single, and Jordan Stading stole home when Desi Ammons threw to second to catch a stealing Yarnall. Kory Brown singled home a run to extend Kalamazoo's lead to five.
With one out in the top of the eighth, Robb Paller hit a run-scoring single, and a double by Danny Rosenbaum scored two more runs.
Duarte's RBI single cut the lead to one in the ninth, but Bullfrogs' base runners were thrown out at the plate for the final two outs of the game.
Garrett Harrison will be pitching for the Bullfrogs tonight, making his first start since June 22 due to a broken nose. His last outing came at home against Kenosha when he threw 6 1/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts in an 8-1 victory. The Bullfrogs' ace has a 2-1 record with a 1.33 earned run average in five starts this season.
The Growlers will start Keegan Baar, making his fourth start of the year. He earned the win against Green Bay on June 5. Baar threw seven innings, allowed an earned run on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts. He will enter tonight's game with a 3.56 earned run average and a 1-0 record.
Following the current road trip, the Bullfrogs will return to Joannes Stadium on July 9 against the Growlers for a variety of promotional items.
The first ladies through the gate will receive an ice cream scoop to use post game for the Diamonds & Gold Diamond Dig. WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler will be making a special guest appearance to sign autographs for fans and throw out the first pitch.
Beers will be half price from the time gates open until the end of the fifth inning for Thirsty Thursday. Game time will be at 7:05, and gates open one hour prior to the first pitch.
