Dullnig Follows in Brother's Footsteps
July 6, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- Chad Dullnig (Ranger College) probably could not have foreseen starting the July 4th game in Wisconsin Rapids when he graduated high school in 2012, or maybe even at the beginning of 2015.
The right-hander from San Antonio, TX, one of the newest Bullfrogs' acquisitions, will look to add to a Bullfrogs staff that needs increased depth leading into the second half.
Dullnig was mainly a position player for the Ranger College Rangers (NJCAA) this past season, batting .352 with 3HR and 17RBI. He played first and third and figured out he could pitch in the fall of 2014.
"I threw in high school and then this year we had an inter-squad and one of the pitchers was hurt in practice and I said I would fill in," said Dullnig. "I threw the last inning of this inter-squad and they had the radar gun out and I threw hard and just decided to continue working on it."
He logged 18 1/3IP including two shutout innings at the conclusion of his spring against McClennan College, the team of his new battery mate, Mason George.
The two Texans may also be paired as spring teammates at University of Texas-San Antonio. George has verbally committed, as Dullnig still has yet to make a decision between UTSA and other picks such as Ed Blankmeyer's St. John's.
"UTSA is my number one choice," said Dullnig. "It will be cool to get throwing to him and start early."
Chad's brother, Cameron Dullnig (Western Carolina), was a member of the 2011 Green Bay Bullfrogs that featured future professional players such as Phil Ervin, Paul Hoenecke, and Mitch Haniger.
"The reason why I found [Green Bay] was because of my brother. He had nothing but great things to say about the organization," said Dullnig. "He said this is best of the best, it's like playing in the minor leagues pretty much."
Dullnig only lasted 1 2/3 IP in his first start, but did not yield any earned runs after three errors were committed in the field behind him during a nightmare second inning against the Rafters. He will be a key force likely out of the Bullfrogs bullpen in the future.
