Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - Justin Marra drove in three runs and hit his first homer of the season as the Eugene Emeralds bounced back from a series opening loss to Vancouver with a 6-0 shutout on Sunday in front of 3,705 fans at PK Park.

Eugene (10-8) had four pitchers combine on the two-hit shutout. Rookie Ryan Kellogg from Arizona State made his first career start, tossing two shutout innings with a strikeout. Adbert Alzolay threw the next three innings, tallying four strikeouts without allowing a hit. Francisco Carillo followed with scoreless seventh and eighth innings, giving up just one hit with one strikeout. Trey Masek threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning in his Eugene debut, including a strikeout to end it.

Eugene jumped out to the early lead with a run in the second inning. After Blake Headley reached on a bunt single and moved to second on an error, he came around to score when Ricardo Marcano singled up the middle. The Emeralds tacked on another run in the fourth inning on Donnie Dewees' fifth double of the season. He hit all of his doubles over the last seven games.

With a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Marra crushed his first homer of the season, high off the light standard in right center. Eugene blew the game open with a three-run sixth inning. Dewees reached on a perfect bunt single to start the frame before Frandy De La Rosa singled to center. Matt Rose drew a walk to load the bases. Dewees then scored on a wild pitch while De La Rosa and Rose came home on a single to center by Marra.
