State College Spikes News Release

AUBURN, NY - Jesse Jenner produced his first professional home run as part of a three-hit night, and Mike Pritchard also contributed three as the State College Spikes collected a season-high 14 hits in a 7-1 victory over the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday evening at Falcon Park.

Jenner went deep to left field with a two-run shot off Auburn (7-9) reliever Jose Morales to finalize the scoring in the game. The Cardinals' 2015 seventh-round draft choice, who came into the game without an extra-base hit as a professional, also cracked a double down the left field line in the fifth.

Pritchard's also scored a pair of runs to go with his three singles that helped the Spikes (7-9) to victory. Harrison Bader, Cole Lankford and Craig Aikin also delivered multiple hits for State College, with Lankford adding a double. Leobaldo Pina's two-out, two-run double in the first started the scoring.

Casey Grayson, who brought in two runs with his third-inning single, extended his on-base streak to 16 games, the longest string in the New York-Penn League. Thomas Spitz also extended his on-base streak to 14 games after being hit with a pitch in the third and scoring a run.

Landon Beck (1-1) supported the Spikes' stout offensive effort with six strong innings on the mound. Beck yielded a first-inning run on a total of four hits, a walk and a hit batsman. The righty also recorded eight strikeouts, the most in a single outing for any State College pitcher this year.

Pedro Echemendia and Jacob Evans followed with three scoreless frames, allowing just one hit between them. The hit, a single by Jorge Tillero in the eighth, was the first allowed by Evans in his professional career.

Auburn starter Joan Baez (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits, three walks and a hit batsman over 2 2/3 innings. Baez struck out two in the outing.

The win pulled the Spikes into a tie with the Doubledays for second place in the NYPL's Pinckney Division.

Monday, the Spikes complete their three-game series with the Doubledays in a 7:05 p.m. rubber match at Falcon Park. State College will send right-hander Greg Tomchick (0-0) to the mound to be followed by right-hander Carson Cross (0-1) in a "piggyback" setup.
