Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs could not rally back from an early 3-0 deficit and fell 4-2 to the Rome Braves in the second game of the series Sunday evening at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs (4-7 second half, 38-43 overall) had their best chance to mount a comeback trailing 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh. Alec Grosser replaced Rome's starter Oriel Caicedo (3-3) and walked all three batters he faced, which brought the crowd of 3,172 to their feet. Carlos Salazar entered the game in relief and struck out Ryan Lindemuth and Derek Toadvine to quell the rally.

With the bases loaded and two outs, a pitch bounced off the glove of the catcher Tanner Murphy and Angel Aguilar raced in to score. Collin Slaybaugh drew a walk to re-load the bases, but Salazar struck out Vince Conde to retire the side.

Charleston scored their first run on an RBI ground out by Ryan Lindemuth with the bases loaded in the fifth. The RiverDogs went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position despite having the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh.

Rome (5-5 second half, 36-44 overall) got on the board first for the second game in a row by plating three runs in the top of the third. Bryan De La Rosa led off the inning with a double to left, Stephen Gaylor walked, and Joseph Daris hit a bunt single to load the bases with no outs.

Ozhaino Albies knocked in the first Braves run with a single to right. Omar Obregon grounded into a fielder's choice to score Gaylor. Jordan Edgerton followed with an RBI singled to center to increase Rome's lead to 3-0.

The Braves scored their fourth run on a wild pitch by David Palladino (2-6) in the sixth. Palladino went six innings and took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits. Joey Maher tossed three scoreless in relief of the starter Palladino. The Braves' Brad Roney worked around a two-out walk to set down the RiverDogs in the ninth and earn his second save of the season.
