Bees Routed by Kernels in Series Finale

(Cedar Rapids-IA)- The Burlington Bees lost their second straight game to the Cedar Rapids Kernels, losing 9-6 on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

Just like the night prior, Cedar Rapids got things going in the first inning. Edgar Corcino led of the bottom of the first inning with a walk and moved to third on a Nick Gordon double. After Zack Larson flew out to shallow left, Max murphy walked, loading the bases. Jake Jewell was able to get Brett Doe to fly out to center, keeping the bases loaded. Jorge Fernandez cleared the bases with a double to right, giving the Kernels a 3-0 lead in the first inning.

Brian Navarreto singles down the third base line off the third base bag, starting the bottom of the second with a base hit. Pat Kelly put down a bunt for a base hit, putting runners at first and second. After a fielders' choice placed runners at the corners, Navarreto scored on a wild pitch, upping the Kernels lead to 4-0. Later in the inning, Edgar Corcino came home to score on a double steal and the Kernels led 5-0 after two innings.

Brett Doe led off the bottom of third inning with a home run to left, extending Cedar Rapids' lead to 6-0. TJ White made it 7-0 with a single to center, scoring Jorge Fernandez.

Nick Flair extended his hitting streak to four games, grounding a single into left with one out in the top of the fifth. Playing his first game in a Bees' uniform, Steven Mateo singled to left, placing runners at first and second base. After a strikeout, Erick Salcedo singled, loading the bases. Jake Yacinich struck out swinging, leaving the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

Nick Flair led off the top of the seventh inning by crushing his first career home run, a solo shot to left, cutting the Kernels' lead to 7-1.

The Bees bats added five runs in the ninth on a Jake Yacinich RBI single and a Trever Allen groundout, followed by a Wade Wass two run double. Zach Houchins pulled the Bees to within three with a single, scoring Wass but that was it as the Bees lost the series finale, 9-6.

Cedar Rapids' starter, Randy Rosario, pitched 4.2 scoreless innings and reliever Brandon Bixler (1-0) picked up the win. Bees' starter Jake Jewell (4-4) was charged with the loss. The Bees head to Peoria to start a four game series with the Peoria Chiefs, Monday night at 7:00 at Dozer Park. Austin Robichaux makes the start for the Bees.
