Storm Spoil 'Hawks' Fourth with Comeback in Ninth

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - After taking a late lead in the top of the ninth, two hits and an error in the bottom half handed the JetHawks a 6-5 loss to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Saturday night at The Diamond.

With the score tied at 5-5 and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and Ryan Miller on third, Nick Schulz hit a groundball to JetHawks (42-37) shortstop Mott Hyde with the infield drawn in. Hyde threw home, but catcher Jacob Nottingham dropped the ball, allowing Miller to score the winning run. Marcus Davis had doubled and scored the tying run on Miller's RBI-triple.

Nottingham broke a 4-4 tie for Lancaster in the top of the ninth, as he followed a Jack Mayfield walk with a RBI-double to right-center field off Eric Yardley (2-3).

Tandem starter Akeem Bostick (0-2) took the loss for the JetHawks after allowing the winning run in the ninth. The right- hander struck out four over 3.2 innings of work and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits.

The Storm (34-45) took an early lead against Bryan Radziewski in the bottom of the first inning on a Rey Bruguera RBI- double, then added a run in the second, as Schulz doubled and later scored from third on a wild pitch.

Radziewski struggled through 4.2 innings, yielding four runs (three earned) on seven hits and five walks while striking out four.

In the top of the fourth, the JetHawks took the lead against Lake Elsinore starter Matthew Shepherd. Derek Fisher hit a one-out solo home run, and A.J. Reed singled then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Mayfield delivered a RBI-single, advanced to second on an errant snap throw from the catcher, and scored the go-ahead run on a Nottingham single.

Chase Jensen tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom half with a RBI-single, and the Storm retook the lead in the fifth inning on a Schulz single to score Bruguera.

With reliever Bryan Verbitsky into the game, Mayfield led off the sixth with a walk and reached third on a Marc Wik double.

James Ramsay then hit a groundball to third, and a wide throw to first from Lake Elsinore third baseman Gabriel Quintana allowed Mayfield to score the tying run.

The series continues on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. Troy Scribner (2-3, 5.92) will pitch for the JetHawks, and Zech Lemond (4-5, 5.03) will start for the Storm.
