Unhappy Fourth: Bluefish Return Favor In One Sided Decision

July 4, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

A night after erupting offensively in a big win, the York Revolution saw the Bridgeport Bluefish return the favor, dropping their Independence Day tilt, 9-1 on Saturday evening in front of 4,358 fans at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Revs will go for the series win on Sunday evening in the final game of the season's first half.

Revs starter Logan Williamson retired his first four batters of the game, but ran into trouble as the Bluefish strung together four consecutive hits in the second. Jonathan Galvez sparked the rally with a single to center, followed by a Jobduan Morales single to right. Andres Rodriguez then punched an RBI single down the first base line, and Luis Rodriguez followed with an RBI double to right-center. With two outs in the inning, Josh Prince smacked a two-run double down the third base line, giving Bridgeport an early 4-0 lead.

Welington Dotel led off the bottom of the third with a triple to right-center, his league-leading seventh of the year. Williamson was in position to escape, however, after retiring John Alonso on a shallow fly ball to right and inducing a fielder's choice from Galvez on which second baseman Eric Patterson made a diving stop and threw home to catch Dotel in a rundown. Back-to-back walks extended the inning, however, and Luis Rodriguez made the Revs pay with a two-run single to right-center, notching his fifth hit in six at-bats in the series, after entering Friday's game with just six hits in 14 games played all season. Matt Burns followed with an RBI single down the third base line as the margin ballooned to 7-0. Five of Bridgeport's first seven runs in the game scored with two outs.

Williamson was lifted after a pair of seeing-eye singles started the fourth. Facing reliever Leyson Septimo, Alonso drove in a run on a ground ball that was knocked down by shortstop Alfredo Patino, resulting in an error. Morales later added an RBI single to extend Bridgeport's lead to 9-0 in the fourth.

Bridgeport starter Cory Riordan allowed just one run on an RBI single to left-center by Bryan Pounds in the sixth. It plated Patino who had led off the inning with a bunt single.

Riordan (3-2) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings. He walked none and struck out 11 batters, including five straight in the first and second innings. The righty did not allow a hit until Nick Ferdinand's broken bat infield single with one out in the fifth.

Williamson (3-5) was charged with nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits in three-plus innings, suffering the loss. It was just the second time in 11 starts that the All-Star selection allowed more than two earned runs, and only the third time in 11 starts he has allowed more than one earned run. Williamson was coming off a 1-0 victory over Sugar Land in his previous start.

York's bullpen combined for five scoreless innings. Septimo worked a pair of innings, while Beau Vaughan was perfect in his two frames. Edward Paredes also submitted a scoreless three outs in the eighth.
