Dayton Dragons News Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. - Tyler Mahle fired six scoreless innings and Garrett Boulware delivered three hits and drove in two runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Saturday night.
The game marked a good bounce-back for the Dragons, who had gone 17 straight innings without scoring through Friday's 1-0 loss to Fort Wayne. The Dragons opened the game with four hits and two runs in the first inning to set the tone as they snapped a brief two-game losing skid.
Mahle (8-5) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out three as he became the first Dragons pitcher this season to record eight victories. Mike Sullivan tossed a perfect seventh inning and Conor Krauss closed out the night by pitching the final two innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
Boulware's two-out single brought in Avain Rachal from third to key a two-run first inning for the Dragons. They added another run in the third before Narciso Crook drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to make it 4-0. The Dragons added two more runs in the sixth as one run came in on an error and Boulware drove in the second with a two-out single to drive in Luis Gonzalez and make it 6-0.
The Dragons collected 11 hits. Along with Boulware's three-hit night, Rachal was 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. Cory Thompson, in his first game with the Dragons, went 2 for 5 and scored a run. Gavin LaValley was on base three times with a hit, walk, and hit batsman.
The Dragons (5-5 in the second half; 44-36 overall) play at Fort Wayne (6-4, 38-40) again on Sunday at 3:05. Mark Armstrong (3-2, 2.92) will start for the Dragons against Fort Wayne's Dinelson Lamet (2-4, 3.98). The Dragons will play at Bowling Green Monday and Tuesday before returning home on Wednesday.
All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
