In Thursday's series opener, it was (pitcher) Jake Sanchez and (catcher) Bruce Maxwell leading the way in a 4-0 win over Arkansas.

Friday the 'Hounds used, literally, a brand new battery, with left-hander Dillon Overton making his Double-A debut and Nick Rickles making his "return" behind the dish (Nick played one game for the 'Hounds in 2013). The pair, backed by a pair of three-run innings, were key in a 6-2 victory over the Travelers, as the RockHounds won for the second straight time in the series and earned their sixth win in seven games.

Overton, Oakland's second round selection in the 2013 draft out of the University of Oklahoma, was the winning pitcher in his RockHounds debut, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out four (a 35-pitch fourth inning limited the left-hander to five innings).

Rickles went 2-for-3 (plus a walk) with an RBI single, and helped get the RockHounds out of a potential jam in the seventh. With runners at first and second and one out, he fired behind the runner at first, picking off Anthony Bemboom (the Travelers failed to score in the inning).

Friday night's battery mates have a lot in common. Each has missed a full season due to injury, and the pair was called up together (June 30) from (Advanced-A) Stockton following the promotions of (pitcher) Nate Long and (catcher) Carson Blair to (Triple-A) Nashville.

Dillon missed the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery shortly after being drafted by the A's (his professional debut was delayed until last season), while Nick suffered a torn labrum during Spring Training in 2014 and would subsequently miss the entire season.

The RockHounds gave Overton an early cushion with a three-run first, highlighted by Josh Whitaker's two-run double, and another "hat trick" in the third. The latter was started on an "ooh and ah" home run from Renato Nuñez, a towering, two-run home run over the high wall in left.
