Midland TX - The Arkansas Travelers offense continued to sputter in a 6-2 loss to the Midland RockHounds on Friday night at Security Bank Ballpark. The loss was the fifth straight for the Travs.

The RockHounds scored three times in the first inning and three in the third off Arkansas starter RHP Kyle McGowin (L, 4-7).

In the first, CF Chad Oberacker and 2B Colin Walsh started the game with back-to-back singles. They both scored on a RF Josh Whitaker double down the left field line that made it 2-0 before the first out. Whitaker came around to score on a SS Brandon Pinder RBI single.

DH Renato Nunez clobbered a two-run home run in the third to put Midland up 5-0. Nunez, who will play in the MLB Futures Game on July 12, has 11 homeruns for the 'Hounds since May 9.

McGowin surrendered all six runs (five earned) on 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Arkansas scored its runs on a 1B Brian Hernandez RBI single in the fourth and DH Michael Snyder RBI groundout in the ninth.

The RBI for Hernandez was his league-leading 52nd. He finished 2-for-4 with a double and the RBI.

3B Drew Maggi also finished 2-for-4 for the Travs with his team-best 15th stolen base this season.

LHP Scott Snodgress made his Travs debut and worked a scoreless sixth. RHP Kyle Winkler, who was traded from the Rays last week, pitched a perfect seventh and RHP Danny Reynolds did not allow a run in the eighth despite walking the bases loaded.

Arkansas finished 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and has two total hits with runners in scoring position during the five-game losing streak.

With the loss, the Travs fell to 39-38 on the season and 3-5 in the second half. The two teams will conclude the three-game series on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Security Bank Ballpark.
