Bats Take Second Game After Losing Suspended Game

LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Louisville Bats (40-42) continued their series with the Columbus Clippers (43-39) resuming Thursday's suspended game as left-hander Tony Cingrani and right-hander Robert Stephenson took the mound for the Bats. Louisville dropped the suspended game 7-1, but rebounded for a 3-2 win in the second.

Lefty Tony Cingrani made a Major League rehab assignment today and started the fourth inning to resume game one of the series. He went two innings, gave up zero hits, walked one, and struck out three. He threw 35 pitches resulting in 23 strikes.

The Bats and Clippers stayed tied 1-1 through four frames. The Clippers tacked on six runs in the last four innings with homeruns by centerfielder Tyler Naquin, catcher Brett Hayes, and rightfielder Jerry Sands. Louisville's Brennan Boesch hit a solo homer in the fourth inning for the only Bats run in game one.

Righty Tyler Sturdevant (W, 1-0, 1.08) started the fifth inning for the Clippers and had his first win of the season. He went two innings, gave up one hit, walked one, and struck out one.

Righty Donovan Hand (L, 1-5, 5.31) replaced Cingrani to start the sixth and had his fifth loss of the season. He went four innings, gave up seven hits, six runs all earned, struck out one, and allowed three home runs.

In game two, righty Robert Stephenson (W,1-0, 3.60) made his triple-A debut for the Bats and earned his first win. The Reds' No. 1 prospect went five innings, gave up six hits, allowed two runs all earned, walked three, and struck out six. He threw 94 pitches resulting in 59 strikes.

Righty Toru Murata (L, 5-4, 2.91) started on the mound for the Clippers. He went six innings, gave up seven hits, allowed three runs all earned, walked four, struck out one, and allowed one homerun.

The Bats were on the board early in the first as Falu scored when Josh Satin grounded into a double play. The Clippers followed and took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI double by centerfielder Tyler Naquin and an RBI single by second baseman Jose Ramirez.

In the fourth Boesch hit his second solo home run of the night to tie the game at 2-2, extending his hitting streak to 11 games.

Falu hit his 13th double of the season to score Ryan LaMarre and break the tie in the fifth inning.

Righty Jumbo Diaz (S, 5) earned the save for the Bats, preserving the 3-2 win. He went two innings, gave up one hit, and struck out two.

Tomorrow the Bats head to Indianapolis to start a split six game series at 6:05 pm. Projected to pitch for the bats righty Dylan Axelrod (5-5, 4.14) and for the Indians righty Adrian Sampson (6-6, 3.76).
