Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - Scarlyn Reyes struck out a career-high 12 batters to help the Savannah Sand Gnats earn a doubleheader split with the Augusta GreenJackets on July 3rd in front of a crowd of 4,508 at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The GreenJackets (6-3/39-39) won game one 3-1 while the Gnats (2-6/41-37) took game two 3-0.

In game two, the Gnats did all of the game's scoring in the bottom of the second. With one out and two one base, left fielder Vicente Lupo tripled down the right field line to score two. Lupo scored a batter later on third baseman Jonathan Johnson's single into right field.

From there, Reyes did the rest. Reyes fanned 12 and walked two while allowing just four hits, three of which were singles. His previous career-best was 11 strikeouts, set on June 18.

Lupo was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and a walk in game two.

In game one, each team scored in their half of the first inning. For the Gnats, centerfielder John Mora bounced a single through the right side to chase Luis Guillorme for a run to even the game at 1-1.

However, the Jackets scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to establish the winning margin. In the third, shortstop Jeremy Sy doubled home Ryan Jones. In the fifth, Johneshwy Fargas, who stole four bases in the game, raced home on first baseman Styler Ewing's single into left field.

The Sand Gnats will travel to Greenville to take on the Drive. The Gnats own the season series against the Drive 7-0. Savannah will start RHP Corey Oswalt (5-3, 3.95) in game one of four, while Greenville will send LHP Dedgar Jimenez (5-4, 3.32) to the mound at Flour Field in the West End. The Sand Gnats will return home July 14th for Two-for-Tuesday versus the Asheville Tourists.
