Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

ERIE, PA - The Binghamton Mets racked up 10 hits, but managed just two runs in a 3-2 loss to the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park. Michael Gibbons worked into the seventh inning in his Double-A debut in the losing effort. Binghamton collected nine singles and reached double figures in hits for the fourth straight game and settled for the four-game series split.

The B-Mets jumped on the scoreboard with a trio of singles, pushing a run across in the first for the second straight night. With runners at the corners, Brandon Nimmo threaded an RBI hit past Curt Powell at second to plate LJ Mazzilli with the game's first run.

Gibbons side-stepped a pair of throwing errors by Mazzilli in a scoreless first before settling into a groove. The righty from Connecticut retired eleven straight before issuing a two-out walk in the fourth. James Robbins pushed Erie ahead, by blasting a two-run homer to right-center, the SeaWolves first hit of the game.

LJ Mazzilli started a two-out rally in the fifth by yanking a double down the left-field line. Michael Conforto brought him home one pitch later by stroking a single up the middle, tying the game at two.

Gibbons carried the tie game into the seventh before falling into trouble. Connor Harrell singled up the middle and Wade Gaynor pulled a double to left, prompting Pedro Lopez to call upon Beck Wheeler. The righty walked Drew Longley before Harold Catro lofted a tiebreaking sacrifice fly to left-field.

Trailing by one, Binghamton failed to push a run across against reliever Slade Smith in the eighth. Paul Voelker worked around a two-out single by Cecchini in a blank ninth, earning his second save of the series.

Turley (8-5) allowed two runs and scattered eight hits over seven innings to notch his third straight win. Gibbons (0-1) was touched for three runs over 6-1/3 innings in the defeat.

The B-Mets (40-39) return home to open a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Michael Fulmer takes the hill against RHP William Cuevas. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
