Lexington Legends News Release

Yunior Marte allowed one unearned run in four and one-third innings in relief as the Lexington Legends recorded a 4-2 win over the Rome Braves Friday night in Rome.

The Braves were 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

The Legends scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Walks to Corey Toups and Humberto Arteaga and a single by Ryan O'Hearn loaded the bases. Toups scored as Elier Hernandez grounded into a force play at second base, and Arteaga came home on a sacrifice fly by Wander Franco.

Rome came back with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out by Matt Tellor, his ninth run batted in in the three-game series.

In the top of the fifth, Toups doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on O'Hearn's sacrifice fly to give the Legends a 3-1 lead. Rome cut the lead to one with a run in the eighth, but the Legends countered with a run in the ninth on a walk to Chase Vallot, a sacrifice by Brandon Downes and a double by Michael Hill.

Marte (3-0) relieved starter Foster Griffin with two outs in the fifth inning and finished the game to get the win. Marte allowed five hits and one run. He struck out five batters and walked two.

Rome starter Ricardo Sanchez (1-5) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends won two out of three games in Rome, and will return to Lexington to open a 10-game, nine-day homestand Saturday. They'll meet the Asheville Tourists in a four-game series, followed by six games against the Savannah Sand Gnats. Game time Saturday is 7:05 p.m. A Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.
