ZEBULON, NC - Dash starter Robinson Leyer stifled Carolina's attempt at a home sweep with a seven inning shutout effort against the Mudcats and led Winston-Salem to a 2-1 win at Five County Stadium on Friday night. The Mudcats won the series two game to one, but fell short in the finale in front of 4,928 fans in Zebulon.

Leyer (W, 3-6, 4.70) held the Mudcats offense without a run and to just four hits over seven full innings pitched. He walked three, but struck out six wile earning his third win of the season. It was the second time that he had gone seven innings in a game and his third shutout effort of the season.

Carolina's only run scored in the loss came in the ninth against reliever Peter Tago who took over in the eighth inning. Tago (S, 6) struck out the last two he faced in the eighth, but gave up a leadoff double to Carlos Franco in the ninth. Tago went on to strikeout Jose Briceno and then walked Joey Meneses on four straight pitches.

While facing Tanner Krietemeier, Tago unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Franco to score from second and Meneses to advance to third. Franco's run cut the lead to 2-1, but Tago escaped the inning and finished the game after striking out Krietemeier and retiring Reed Harper on a groundout to end the game.
