Friday night, the Hen House was rocking for the four hundredth sell out in Fifth Third Field History. The Mud Hens took on the Indianapolis Indians in the second game of their two game series. Toledo scored in the first inning, and never trailed for the remainder of the game. The Hens took the finale of the series by a final of 4-1.
The Mud Hens got on the board in the first inning thanks to a two out rally. Jefry Marte walked to become Toledo's first base runner of the night, and then he stole second base. Steven Moya, batting in the clean up spot, hit a single up the middle to score Marte and give the Hens a 1-0 lead.
In the third inning, the Indians knotted the game at one run courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Keon Broxton that scored Willy Garcia. The Hens answered right back, though, getting two runs in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, Mike Hessman hit his second triple of the week to score Marte and give Toledo the lead back. Daniel Fields followed with a single to score Hessman and give the Mud Hens a 3-1 lead.
Not done showing off his speed, Hessman led off the fifth inning with a double to the left field corner. With two outs, Jeff McVaney sent a ground ball single through the middle of the diamond to put Toledo up 4-1.
Shane Greene was outstanding on the mound Friday night. In his six innings of work, he had all of his pitches working. Greene tallied six strikeouts, with five of the hitters going down swinging. Overall, he only allowed one run on six hits. After Greene exited the game, the Mud Hens' bullpen did masterful work to close out the game. Angel Nesbitt threw two scoreless innings, and then Guido Knudson came on in the ninth to notch his second save of the season.
The Hens hit the road on Saturday for a three game series in Columbus to take on the Clippers. First pitch on the Fourth of July is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
