Blue Jackets Sign John Ramage to One-Year, Two-Way Contract

COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman John Ramage to a one-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract for the 2015-16 season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Ramage, 24, tallied three goals and 12 assists for 15 points and 81 penalty minutes in 57 games with the Adirondack Flames during the 2014-15 campaign. He also posted four shots in 18:10 of ice time in his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames on April 11, 2015 at Winnipeg.

The St. Louis, Missouri native has collected 3-13-16 and 127 penalty minutes in 107 career AHL games with the Flames and Abbotsford Heat. He recorded 0-1-1 with 46 penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 50 games in his first professional season in 2013-14. He added 1-0-1 and six penalty minutes in six games with the Alaska Aces (ECHL) before helping the Aces capture the 2014 Kelly Cup championship with 4-9-13 and 20 penalty minutes in 20 postseason games.

Calgary's third pick, 103rd overall, in the 2010 NHL Draft, Ramage registered 14-39-53, 237 penalty minutes and +28 in 157 career games at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA). He served as team captain in his final two seasons, including leading Wisconsin to a WCHA championship as a senior after notching 8-12-20 with 65 penalty minutes and a +15 plus/minus rating in 42 games in 2012-13. He also skated in 20 games for Team USA in international competition, helping the Americans capture gold at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships, 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships and captaining them to a bronze at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championships.
