Charlotte Independence News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (July 3, 2015) - The Charlotte Independence today announced the team has received on loan goalkeeper Matt Lampson from Columbus Crew SC of MLS. The loan will last for a period of six matches, beginning with the July 4 match against Saint Louis FC and running through the August 5 contest with New York Red Bulls II.
Lampson has appeared in 16 contests for Crew SC since he signed as a Homegrown Player on December 15, 2011. Over that span, the goalkeeper has compiled 50 saves with five clean sheets, a 1.44 goals-against average and a record of 9-6-0. He previously joined USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds on loan for one match this season, a June 13 contest against the Independence in Charlotte.
A graduate of Ohio State University, Lampson appeared in 56 matches for the Buckeyes, starting 55, with an impressive goals-against average of 0.86. He also notched 24 shutouts.
Lampson will train with the Independence alongside Jacob Lissek and Andrew Pannenberg, both of whom are signed to amateur contracts with the club. Starting keeper John Berner is expected to be out 3-4 more weeks rehabbing injuries sustained during the third round US Open Cup match against the Carolina RailHawks on May 27.
The Independence return to USL action on Saturday, July 4, welcoming fellow expansion side Saint Louis FC to Ramblewood Soccer Complex. Charlotte is 2-1-2 in its last six matches and currently sits just three points out of a playoff spot. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
