Walk-Off Part Two: Sweets Take Game and Series in Style

July 3, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release

Walla Walla, Wa- The Sweets walked it off against the Applesox for the second straight night, winning it 3-2. The win gave them a series victory over their division rivals.

The scoring started in the third. The Applesox put up two unearned runs on only one hit. They were aided by two errors by the Sweets as Danny Amaral scored on an overthrow to third by the catcher Willie MacIver. Mitchell Holland then added another run on an RBI single.

The Sweets would find the scoreboard in the fifth. MacIver singled with one out in the inning and was moved to second on a walk by Parker Coss. Connor Kopach then delivered an RBI single up the middle to score MacIver. That cut the lead in half at 2-1 Wenatchee.

The Sweets took the same score into the ninth inning and that is when the bats got hot. Jon Hechtner started the inning off with a pinch-hit double down the line in left. Willie MacIver followed that up with what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt, but the throw went to third and was too late to nab Hechtner. That put runners on the corners with no outs for Coss. He lined a single into left with the infield in to score Hechtner and tie the game up at two.

Kopach was then intentionally walked after Kyle Dozier struck out and that gave Kyle Nixon a shot with the bases loaded. He launched a 1-1 pitch into right for a sacrifice fly to win the game.

The Sweets will head to Yakima for three games with the Pippins over the weekend. First pitch tomorrow is slated for 7:05pm.
