Lansing Lugnuts News Release
EASTLAKE, Ohio - The Lansing Lugnuts' (5-3, 47-31) attack backed up the Minor Leagues' wins leader Shane Dawson with eleven runs, blasting the Lugs past the Lake County Captains (2-6, 38-38), 11-3, Thursday from Classic Park.
Lansing had three hits and trailed, 3-0, heading into the sixth until the MWL's top-scoring offense bashed Sean Brady (Loss, 5-5), David Speer, and Jordan Carter for 13 hits and eleven runs.
The barrage supported Dawson (Win, 11-4), who maneuvered through seven innings and allowed three runs. Dawson and the Pittsburgh Pirates' Gerrit Cole are the only two pitchers in the Major or Minor Leagues with more than 10 wins.
After giving up three runs in the first three innings, the MWL All-Star allowed two hits and no runs through the next four innings.
Mark Biggs relieved Dawson and pitched a perfect final two innings.
Jason Leblebijian started the offensive spurt with a two-RBI triple in the sixth and tied a professional high with four RBIs. Ryan McBroom had a single and two RBIs, giving him sole possession of the league lead with 51 RBIs.
Chris Carlson hit his third home run of the season, his second straight day with a blast. The product of Cal Poly Pomona finished 3-for-5 with an RBI after hitting the go-ahead home run in the 10th last night.
D.J. Davis also had three base hits, knocking in two RBIs.
The Lugs and Justin Shafer (2-0, 2.01) oppose the Captains and lefty Justus Sheffield (6-1, 4.43) in the final game of the road trip Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
On Friday, the Lugs return home for a four-game homestand that includes a special LAFCU Fireworks show on July 4th against Lake County.
