Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Seattle Mariners announced a pair of moves that affected the Jackson Generals on Thursday prior to the team's contest against the Mobile BayBears. Outfielder Julio Morban was activated from the restricted list and transferred to Jackson from Triple-A Tacoma, while five-year MLB veteran Brant Brown has been named the team's hitting coach.

Morban returns to Jackson, where he was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star in 2013 after batting .295 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs in a career-high 86 games. The Dominican outfielder has been a member of Seattle's 40-man roster since November of 2012.

He began the season with Jackson, going 5-for-22 in seven games before moving to Triple-A Tacoma. Morban played in a dozen games with the Rainiers before being placed on the restricted list at the beginning of May. His last game was on May 2.

The 23-year-old was signed by the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in 2008. Baseball America ranked him as the team's 25th-best prospect coming into the season.

Brant Brown brings more MLB experience to Jackson's coaching staff, having played in 424 games over parts of five seasons. He began 2015, his third season in the Mariners organization, as the team's Outfield and Baserunning coordinator but moves into a familiar role as hitting coach. Brown spent six seasons as a hitting coach in the Texas Rangers organization, including a year with Triple-A Round Rock in 2012.

The California native was a three-year starter at Fresno State, helping lead the Bulldogs to a College World Series berth in 2991. The next year, he was first-team All-Big West and a second-team All-American selection after winning the conference's Triple Crown. He was taken by the Cubs in the third round of the 1992 June draft.

Jackson's roster now stands at 25 active players with nine on the disabled list. Morban will wear No. 4 and Brown will wear No. 21. An updated roster is attached.
