Another strong offensive output from the Volcanoes (6-8) was enough to overcome Boise (5-9) in a 7-5 game one victoryon Wednesday night. Boise committed four errors and left 13 men on the base paths as the Volcanoes took advantage of their Southern Division rival's mistakes.

With last night's 8-run collapse versus Spokane still fresh, the Volcanoes held on to their lead this time after scoring three runs in the sixth inning. Both teams scratched across one more run in the ninth, but that would close out the scoring on a night to savor for anyone who enjoys offense.

A Miguel Gomez single drove in the game's first run in the first inning. Just one frame later, Steven Duggar put the Volcanoes up 2-0 with an RBI groundout.

Drew Leenhouts (2-1), who owned a 0.69 ERA coming into Wednesday's contest, didn't appear to have the control he did in his first two outings. The lefty surrendered four runs in the third inning on five hits, putting the Hawks ahead 4-2.

The Volcanoes cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning on a deep sacrifice fly by Christian Lichtenthaler, scoring John Riley.

Salem-Keizer jumped out to a lead thanks to a big sixth inning. Julio Pena got it started with a leadoff triple off the wall and was then driven in on a Mark Nelson single up the middle. Lichtenthaler then reached on an error and, with a sharp single from Duggar, the bases were loaded with nobody out. A deep sacrifice fly by Junior Amion and a slow high-chopping ground ball to third base from Chris Shaw drove in Nelson and Lichtenthaler to plate the Volcanoes' fifth and sixth runs.

After another sacrifice fly, this time from Mark Nelson, made the score 7-4 in the top of the ninth, Boise managed to get a run off of Caleb Smith. However, Smith coaxed a groundout and a strikeout to close out the contest and secure his second save.

The victory improves Salem-Keizer's record to 6-8, remaining two games out of first behind Eugene in the South Division.

The Volcanoes and Hawks get back at it on Thursday night in game two of this three-game set. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m. Pacific.
