Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

YORK, Pa. - The Sugar Land Skeeters won their second-straight game on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over York at Santander Stadium. With the win, the Skeeters improve to 35-32 with three games remaining in the first half. Southern Maryland clinched the first half title in the Freedom Division with a pair of wins over Bridgeport this afternoon.

Shane Loux earned the win for Sugar Land in a dominant performance on the mound, improving to 4-3 on the season. The former big leaguer went 6.0 innings of shutout baseball, scattering three hits with a pair of strikeouts. Johan Limonta paced the Skeeters at the plate, going 3-for-4 against his former team.

The Skeeters mounted a two-out rally in the top of the third to break the scoring seal. Following a Chris Wallace flyout and an Amadeo Zazueta groundout, Denny Almonte singled to centerfield to keep the inning alive. Revolution starter, Matt Neil then surrendered a pair of walks to newcomer Ryan Adams and Delwyn Young to load the bases. Travis Scott rifled a single into right to score two and stake the Skeeters to a 2-0 lead. With the two RBI, Scott is now two RBI away from tying Dominic Ramos for the all-time lead in Sugar Land history. In his first game with the Skeeters, Joe Benson belted a double to plate Young and increase the lead to 3-0.

In the fourth, Sugar Land continued to pour it on and add an additional run. Wallace sprayed a ball to the opposite field for a one out single and swiped second to move into scoring position. Almonte doubled into the centerfield alley to increase the Skeeters' lead to 4-0.

York would chip into the lead in the bottom of the seventh and eighth to narrow the deficit to 4-2. Andres Perez doubled to left before coming in to score on an RBI single from Luis De La Cruz in the seventh. In the eighth, Shannon Wilkerson doubled and advanced to third on a groundout from Eric Patterson. Nick Ferdinand beat out an infield single to the shortstop for an RBI, but was stranded there after Derrick Loop entered in relief to strike out Yeicok Calderon.

In the bottom of the ninth, York would put the tying run on base. Following a one out single and a walk, John Lujan entered to retire Bryan Pounds via the strikeout and induced a fly out from Wilson Valdez to earn his eighth save of the season in the 4-2 win.
