Rodriguez Rides Through Six to Victory

July 2, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

OREM - Pitching continued to lead the way for the Orem Owlz as they win their 4th straight game beating the Grand Junction Rockies 6-5. Starting pitcher Jose Rodriguez delivered a gem going six innings while giving up just four hits and two earned runs. He pounded the zone getting four strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.

Taylor Ward got a break playing catcher and moved to DH tonight. He rewarded the Owlz by going 3-4 with a solo HR to left field. Tanner Lubach got the start at catcher going 1-2 before taking a foul tip off his mask, and then being replaced by Eason Spivey.

Second baseman Hutton Moyer had one of the most impressive hits of the night. In an 0-8 streak entering the bottom on the 8th, Moyer lifted a moonshot to deep right field into the rocks, nearing the freeway entrance.

Grand Junction stayed in the game by scoring two runs in the top of the 9th facing Arjenis Fernandez. Eventually Fernandez got Daniel Suero to ground out to Moyer stranding the tying run on first. He picked up his first save of the season to go along with his 2-0 record.

The Owlz sit atop the entire Pioneer League standings with a record of 10-4.

They now lead this series 2-0 and will play the third game tomorrow at 7:15 P.M.

The game can be seen on KPDR 19 and heard on audio.oremowlz.com.
