Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Ma. - The Worcester Bravehearts hosted the Torrington Titans in a double header on Wednesday night at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA. The games were shortened to seven innings each, as the Bravehearts swept the Titans by scores of 1-0 and 2-0.

Game 1: Needing extra innings to complete the shortened game at Hanover Insurance Park, the Bravehearts pulled out a victory in the first of two in the bottom of the ninth inning of a Gavin Tristan (Richmond, TX/Lamar) sacrifice fly to score the game's only run.

It was a pitchers dual for the first game of the double header. Jacob Stevens (Darien, CT/Boston College) may have gotten the no decision for the Bravehearts, but he was brilliant in his outing for Worcester in the first game of the double header. He was able to pitch 6.1 innings for the home team without allowing a run, only giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out six batters.

Stevens' counterpart, Robbie Hitt (Suffield, CT/Quinnipiac), was just as impressive for his no decision outing as well. He was able to last seven full innings without giving up a run, allowing just four hits, walking two batters, and striking out six as well.

Charlie Butler (Marlborough, MA/Maine) closed out the final 2.2 innings of work for the Bravehearts, allowing two hits, striking out two batters, and picking up the win in game one of the double header.

Game 2: The Bravehearts were able to put together back-to-back wins on Wednesday night, as they finished off the Torrington Titans in game two of the double header by the score of 2-0.

During the shortened seven-inning game, Greg Stagani (Richmond, OH/West Liberty) was masterful on the mound. The tall righty went five strong innings for the Bravehearts without allowing a run, only giving up one hit, and striking out six batters. He picked up his first win of the summer for Worcester.

The Bravehearts couldn't get much offense going off of Torrington lefty Colby Tollison (Abbeville, SC/USC-Sumter) to begin the game, not allowing a hit to a Worcester batter in the first four innings. It was Gavin Tristan's RBI-bunt single that drove home the winning run for the Bravehearts. Alex Sanchez (New York, NY/Galveston) drove home an insurance run in the sixth inning to push the lead to 2-0.

After Logan Fullmer (Lebanon, PA/Maine) loaded the bases in the ninth, he struck out two of the final three outs to get the save.

The Worcester Bravehearts will play a doubleheader tomorrow night against the Torrington Titans starting at 5:05pm at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
