(Bridgeport, CT - July 1, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-42) were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (39-27) 5-4 in the second game of a day/night doubleheader at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday evening. Southern Maryland has now won three consecutive games over the Bluefish, winning two in one-run fashion.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Kameron Loe (0-2) was tagged with the loss, tossing six and one-third innings, surrendering five runs (four earned runs) on eight hits, walking one and striking out eight. Southern Maryland Starting Pitcher Daryl Thompson (2-1) earned the win, pitching six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, walking two and striking out four. Erik Hamren labored in the ninth inning, allowing one run on two hits, walking one, striking out one and throwing a wild pitch, but was able to hang on for his 19th save of the season, second most in the Atlantic League, one behind Ryan Kussmaul of the Long Island Ducks.

Southern Maryland took the lead in the top half of the sixth inning off Loe, sending eight batters to the plate, scoring three runs on four hits. The big blow was a two-run double by Daryle Ward, scoring Anthony Vega and Fred Lewis who each reached on singles with one-out. The Blue Crabs made it 3-0 in their favor later in the inning on a run-scoring single by Casey Stevenson, plating Ward.

Trailing 5-0 in the eighth inning, the Bluefish climbed their way back into the ballgame, scoring three runs on four hits off Blue Crabs reliever Wade Korpi. The 'Fish picked up three consecutive RBI singles by Jobduan Morales, Andres Rodriguez, and Matt Burns, cutting the deficit to just two runs at 5-3. The 'Fish would stage another rally in their last at bat in the ninth inning off Hamren. Josh Prince would trim the Blue Crabs lead to just a single run at 5-4, scoring on a wild pitch. Infielder Luis Antonio Rodriguez was at third representing the tying run, and Jonathan Galvez was at first with the winning run with two outs, but Hamren struck out Morales looking to end the game, and the Blue Crabs were able to narrowly escape with the 5-4 victory. Rodriguez led the offensive attack for Bridgeport with three hits, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances, drawing two walks. He now has an eleven game hitting streak and a 15 game on-base streak, both season highs. The trio of Eric Niesen, Steven Ames, and Erik Draxton pitched two and two-thirds shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Bluefish, striking out five.
