July 1, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Russ Canzler's walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (33-48) to a 3-2 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (43-37) on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park.
Tyler Henson (2-5, 3B, R) led off the tenth with a leadoff triple before scoring on Canzler's walk-off single.
RHP Juan Gutierrez (1.0 IP, H, BB, K) worked his way out of a bases loaded one-out jam in the top of the tenth to get the win for the Pigs and move to 2-1 on the season.
RHP Danny Burawa (0.2 IP, H) took the loss for the RailRiders and drops to 1-2 on the season.
The win completes the sweep of the three-game set for the IronPigs.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Ben Gamel led off with a single, moved to third on a single and scored on a sac fly delivered by Ramon Flores.
Lehigh Valley loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom half of the frame, but was unable to score as Canzler (2-5, 2B, RBI) grounded into a 1-2-3 double play and Aaron Altherr struck out to end the inning.
Cole Figueroa's RBI single in the top of the fourth extended the RailRiders lead to 2-0.
Both runs were charged to Pigs starter Dustin McGowan (n/d) who gave up the two runs on four hits while walking two and fanning one over four innings of work.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Jaron Long (n/d) allowed five hits over six scoreless innings to go along with a walk and four strikeouts.
The Pigs rallied to tie it at two with a pair of runs in the seventh against RHP Diego Moreno (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, K) as Cord Phelps (2-3, 3B, RBI, R) delivered a run with an RBI triple in the inning and later scored on Logan Moore's sac fly.
The RailRiders had runners at second and third with nobody out in the top of the eighth, but LHP Cesar Jimenez (3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K) was able to get a groundout and a pair of strikeouts to wiggle his way out of the jam.
RHP Seth Rosin (2.0 IP, 3 H, BB) tossed a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Pigs.
Lehigh Valley will open a two-game set with the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park. RHP David Buchanan (1-0, 3.00) gets the ball for the IronPigs against Red Wings RHP Greg Peavey (0-1, 4.76).
