Gwinnett Stripers News Release

BUFFALO, NY - The Gwinnett Braves (40-38) continued their road domination of the Buffalo Bisons (37-42) with a 6-2 win Wednesday night in the finale of their three-game series at Coca-Cola Field.

The win completed a sweep of the Bisons for the G-Braves and increased their winning streak to nine games in Buffalo across the past three seasons. The G-Braves also moved two games above the .500 mark for the first time in 2015.

Right-hander Alex White (W, 1-0) picked up his first Gwinnett win by pitching 6.0 innings with five hits, two earned runs, four walks and three strikeouts. He was supported by right-handed reliever Carlos Fisher (S, 3) who worked a 3.0-inning save with no hits allowed and one strikeout.

Gwinnett broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third off of Buffalo left-handed starter Daniel Norris. Daniel Castro led off with a walk and moved to second, as Mycal Jones reached first on a bunt single when Norris fell down trying to field the ball at the base of the mound. Mallex Smith followed with a bunt, but Castro beat the throw to third from catcher Sean Ochinko to load the bases with no one out.

Jose Peraza hit a fly ball to right, and Castro, tagging up from third, was safe on a play at the plate when Ochinko dropped the throw from right fielder Caleb Gindl. With the ball on the ground, Smith broke for second. The throw from Norris was late at second, which allowed Jones to hustle home from third to establish a 2-0 lead.

Eric Young, Jr. then struck out, but the ball got by Ochinko to the backstop, enabling Young to reach first safely, while Smith moved to third. Adonis Garcia then drove in Smith with a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-0 lead.

The G-Braves scored again in the top of the fourth. Sean Kazmar drilled a one-out triple to left when Alex Hassan fell down trying to field the line drive. Castro hit a single to right field that scored Kazmar for a 4-0 lead.

Buffalo rallied to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth off of White, as Ochinko lifted a two-run home run to left to make it 4-2.

But Gwinnett got both those runs back over the next two innings, as Castro singled in Todd Cunningham from second in the top of the sixth to move the lead to 5-2, and Jones struck a leadoff solo homer to left off of Norris in the top of the seventh for the 6-2 final score.

Norris (L, 1-8) went 7.0 innings with six hits, six runs (four earned), two walks and one strikeout. Right-hander Chad Jenkins pitched 2.0 innings with one hit, one walk and one strikeout.

Offensively, Castro was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run for the G-Braves. Kazmar was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run, and Jones was also 2-for-4 with two runs and the solo homer.

For Buffalo, Jonathan Diaz was 2-for-4, and Ochinko was 1-for-3 with his two-run homer.

The G-Braves' road trip continues with a 7:05 p.m. game Thursday night with the first of a three-game series against the Charlotte Knights at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Kanekoa Texeira (0-2, 4.20 ERA) will pitch for Gwinnett. The Knights will counter with right-hander Erik Johnson (7-5, 2.86 ERA). Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM and WSBRadio.com beginning at 6:30 p.m.
