(Burlington-IA)- Austin Robichaux extended his scoreless inning streak to 24.2 innings but the Bees fell to the Kane County Cougars, 1-0 on Wendesday night at Community Field.
Cougars' starter, Wei-Chieh Huang retired the first seven hitters he faced before Sam Koenig lined a single to left but was left stranded at first.
Austin Robichaux ran into trouble in the fourth inning when the Cougars put runners at first and second thanks to an error and a Joe Munoz single. Robichaux struck out Elvin Soto, keeping the game scoreless.
With a runner at first base and one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Erick Salcedo reached on a single and an error, putting runners at second and third. Huang got out of the inning without any damage, striking out Jake Yacinich, keeping the Bees off the board.
Marty Herum smacked a one out double in the top of the sixth inning but Robichaux bounced back to retire the next two hitters. The Bees' starter worked seven innings, without allowing a run, scattering six hits, striking out six but did not factor into the decision.
Marty Herum led off the top of the ninth inning with a broken bat single to center and then stole second. After a Ryan Hutchison fly out, Joe Munoz lined a single to left, scoring Herum, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Tim Arakawa led off the bottom of the ninth with a single but was erased on a Natanael Delgado double play and then Bees fell to Kane County, 1-0.
Reliever Jency Solis (3-1) earned his second win of the series while Bees' reliever Eric Alonzo (0-1) was charged with the loss and Luis Ramirez (3) picked up the save. The Bees take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Thursday night at 6:30, at Community Field. Keynan Middleton makes the start for the Bees against Ethan Mildren for Cedar Rapids.
