WASHINGTON, PA-The Wild Things tallied a hit in every at bat Wednesday night as they rolled away with a 6-0 victory over the visiting Lake Erie Crushers. Ernesto Zaragoza tossed a seven-inning shutout performance for his fourth mound-victory of the season while Rob Blanc suffered the loss.

After a sacrifice fly from third baseman Carter Bell in the first inning got Washington on the board, second baseman Sam Mende broke out the lumber with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third to take the score to 3-0. A solo home run to right in Washington's next at bat from left fielder David Popkins gave the Wild Things a 4-0 advantage after four innings of play.

On the mound, Zaragoza refused to allow Lake Erie to gain any ground on Washington. In his seven innings of work, Zaragoza struck out four and stranded eight Crushers on the base paths.

Popkins added to the Washington lead in the bottom of the eighth with his second dinger of the night, a two-run opposite-field knock. Also leading the Wild Things at the plate were shortstop Austin Wobrock (3-3) and right fielder Scott Kalamar (2-4). A scoreless ninth inning from reliever Tim Giel secured the 6-0 win.

Washington looks to stretch their recent winning streak to four games as they go for the sweep against Lake Erie on Thursday, July 2 at CONSOL Energy Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For tickets, please visit the Wild Things front office, call 724-250-9555 or visit washingtonwildthings.com.
