Canada Day Loss Leaves No Reason to Celebrate

Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Canada Day was not a celebration for the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Wednesday afternoon, the Goldeyes managed only six scattered hits off Sioux City Explorers starter Ryan Zimmerman and relievers David Herndon and Anthony Ferrara and fell 14-0 to the visitors in front of a patient crowd of 6,356 at Shaw Park.
With the loss, the Goldeyes have now dropped the first three games of this four-game set with Sioux City and, in total, have lost four in a row. The 15-22 Goldeyes are now 4-11 at home this season.
Winnipeg's troubles started with two out and nobody on in the fourth when Goldeyes starter Kyle Anderson gave up a single, a walk, a double, a double, another double and a walk before being replaced by reliever Raul Rivera. Anderson gave up four runs on five hits after pitching superbly through the first 3 2/3 innings. Anderson, who has been injured and out of action for a month, obviously tired and the over-used bullpen just didn't have anything left in the tank.
Sioux City scored another run in the fifth, two in the sixth and then seven in the seventh as Michael Lang led the way for the 28-11 Explorers with three hits, two runs and two driven in.
First baseman Casey Haerther pitched the ninth. Haerther's line was no runs on two hits with no walks and a strikeout, so he's got a 0.00 ERA going for him.
Adam Heisler led the Goldeyes with a double and an infield single. Haerther was one-for-three with a walk.
Sioux City starter Zimmerman (6-1, 2.00 ERA) got the win, while Goldeyes starter Anderson (1-2, 5.25 ERA) was tagged with the loss.
The Goldeyes and Explorers will play the final game of this four-game set on Thursday night at 7:05 at Shaw Park. Left-hander Nick Hernandez (3-2, while right-hander Jeff Marquez (4-3, 3.49 ERA) will take the ball for Sioux City.
